Hugh Masekela to blow the Lyric Theatre away on 8 and 9 June
Bra Hugh to blow The Lyric away in June
About Entertainment in association with Tsogo Sun is proud to present the legendary Hugh Masekela at Gold Reef City Casino's Lyric Theatre for two nights of live Heritage music on 8 and 9 June. This is a great opportunity to see this iconic jazzman live in concert before he joins Paul Simon on key dates of his Graceland Tour in Europe in July 2012.
Hugh Masekela has just celebrated his 73rd birthday and has just returned to South Africa from a sell-out tour of the United States, as well as a recent performance at Westminster Abbey as part of the Commonwealth Commemoration celebration.
Bra Hugh has enjoyed six decades of acclaim as a trumpeter, bandleader, composer and lyricist. He is known for his professionalism and charisma to fans of his mix of jazz, bebop, funk and Afrobeat.
Since 1954, Masekela has played music that closely reflects his life experiences. The agony, conflict, and exploitation South Africa faced during 1950s and 1960s inspired him to make music. Over the years, he has won numerous awards, made countless records and established himself as a towering presence in South African music.
*The performances take place at The Lyric Theatre on 8 and 9 June at 20:00. Tickets are priced from R212 to R397 per ticket and can be booked via Computicket or at The Lyric Theatre Box Office on 011 248 5000.

Sibongile Khumalo brings her sound to The Lyric on 27 and 28 April
Sibongile Khumalo brings her sound to The Lyric
The celebrated Sibongile Khumalo is set to bring her blend of African indigenous music and jazz to The Lyric on 27 and 28 April.
Known to many as South Africa's first lady of song, Sibongile Khumalo is part of a musical dynasty marked by an extraordinary vocal gene pool and a passion for making music. She is a singer who exemplifies and crowns the rich and multi-sourced Southern African singing tradition. In the midst of a whirlwind schedule of stage performances, Sibongile recorded her first album, called Ancient Evenings, in 1996. This album - an exploration of the African indigenous music that she had been brought up listening - earned Sibongile two SAMA Awards.
In 1998, Sibongile released her second album, a live recording of a performance held at Johannesburg's Market Theatre. Again, the album received public and critical acclaim, and again, Sibongile took home a SAMA award. The third album - Immortal Secrets - articulated the feelings and reflections of an urban dweller steeped in African culture and heritage. Then came Quest, an album that showed Sibongile to be an individual with a strong sense of self and culture, who is equally open and receptive to difference. Most recently, the album Sibongile Khumalo, moves from the 19th western classical music to the equally classic gems of African choral music.
Sibongile has toured extensively over the past few years and has served as the musical director for productions such as the 'African Soul Sisters' concert (part of Joy for Jazz in Johannesburg), 'Soul on Turf' at Sun City and 'Sistas Healing our Souls'. In the last few years, Sibongile Khumalo has honed her skills as a producer and launched her independent record label, Magnolia Vision Records.
Sibongile Khumalo will appear at The Lyric for two nights on 27 & 28 April at 20:30 and tickets priced at R186 - R315 and are selling fast. Book now to secure tickets to this performance at Computicket or at The Lyric Box Office on 011 248 5000. Visit www.goldreefcity.co.za for more information.
* In addition, to book your Sibongile Khumalo – Breath of Life Theatre Group Hospitality experience, including dining and theatre tickets for 10 persons or more, contact Jaylene James 011 248 5257 or jjames@grcc.co.za
